1/8/17 The Messenger's Gift What is the nature of our relationship with revelation according to the Sufis? We are focusing on a poem from Rumi in which a parrot is taught to speak by a teacher using a mirror and hiding behind it while speaking. The parrot thinks that another parrot is speaking to it and learns to speak in this way. Why doesn't the teacher just speak directly to the bird instead of using this technique with the mirror? Rumi is showing us in this analogy how teaching occurs.
